Gujarat's first sounding rocket was launched from a temporary complex at Dholera
The public broadcaster News On AIR reported that Gujarat's first sounding rocket was launched at Dholera on 14 March 2026, lifting off from a temporary launch complex at one in the afternoon and reaching an altitude of about three kilometres.
Carried by credible news outlets. No official document confirms it yet.
A sounding rocket is a small research rocket that goes up, takes measurements and comes back down without reaching orbit. This one was single stage and sub-orbital, built by an Ahmedabad-based startup, and carried a mini-satellite to collect weather data, with an airframe of carbon fibre and advanced composites.
The section of the report we read does not name the startup, so the name is left blank below rather than filled in from somewhere less reliable. Three kilometres is a modest altitude and the launch complex was temporary, so this is a first rather than a facility, and it is recorded that way.
