A 50 MLD desalination tender is on the board while a 200 MLD plant is being planned

DICDL has an open tender for developing a 50 million litre a day sea water reverse osmosis plant, and three weeks earlier it was reported to be starting the detailed project report for a 200 million litre a day plant. The two are four times apart in capacity and no source explains how they relate.

Carried by credible news outlets. No official document confirms it yet.

Both were live on the DICDL tender board when we checked it on 11 August 2026, the 50 MLD plant on a hybrid annuity model with a submission deadline of 3 September 2026, and the consultancy for the 200 MLD report with a deadline of 13 August 2026. So they are running in parallel rather than one replacing the other.

They may be phases of one programme, with 50 MLD built first and the 200 MLD study covering the eventual scheme. They may be separate. We do not know, and no document we hold says, so that row reads unknown. It is recorded because a reader tracking Dholera's water supply will otherwise meet the two numbers in different places and assume one of them is wrong.

What the source itself says

The DICDL tender listing carried an open Request for Qualification and Request for Proposal for development of a 50 MLD sea water reverse osmosis plant at the snapshot of 4 August 2026. On 18 July 2026 DICDL was reported to be starting a DPR for a 200 MLD seawater desalination plant. The two are four times apart in capacity and no source we hold explains the relationship.

TARGET means somebody is aiming at it. UNKNOWN means no source we hold gives it, and we would rather leave the row empty than fill it with an estimate.

Several of these documents are large PDFs on government portals that move without notice. Where a document has no stable deep link we cite it by its number and date so it can be found again. See the source register for what each document is and what we took from it.
